Contracts: Keep on Top of Changes

6 PDP Credits – 3/4 day

Are you familiar with the recent significant changes to the Contract of Purchase and Sale? This course provides information on clauses and standard forms that have changed over a two-year period in accordance with Council's Professional Standards Manual (PSM), as well as the introduction of and modifications to regulatory regime.

This course will give the REALTOR® a better understanding of the implemented changes to standard forms, which have occurred from 2015 to 2017. It will also provide the REALTOR® with a Professional toolkit to help you further explore the rules and regulations of real estate, which should deliver value to the REALTOR®'s business and their clients.

By the end of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • identify the recent changes to the Contract form, and understand their implications regarding drafting enforceable contracts;
  • recognize clauses that have changed in the Professional Standards Manual and identify where changes in practice may be required;
  • recognize complex areas of contracting that should not be undertaken, unless you have specific expertise in these areas;
  • create a do-not-forget list for some critical areas of contracting;
  • distinguish issues that affect the conveyancer's ability to complete the transaction and apply best practices to avoid problems at closing;
  • apply best strategies to avoid landing on the Real Estate Errors & Omissions Insurance Corporation's annual Top Five list of most expensive insurance claims.
